Recently, there have been a lot of discussions over the Menghai Puerh tea products, especially for those tea cakes produced in or before 2003 such as regular "Red Dayi Brand", "Purple Dayi Brand", and the specially ordered "Golden Dayi Brand" and "Silver Dayi Brand" in the Chinese discussion community. Unfortunately, counterfeits of these famous tea cakes start to emerge in the market. On the other hand, those genuine tea cakes are almost kept by the collectors and aficionados who treat them as their precious collections. For the Puerh tea lovers, keeping these good Puerh tea in their hands is a smart choice because it is not easy for them to obtain a piece of good Puerh tea cake as what they did in 2003. It's a pity if we brew up the immature Puerh tea which could have had a great aging potential.
However, from another point of view, good Puerh tea cakes being kept and collected is an disadvantage to the general education of Puerh tea. Unlike the other subjects, Puerh tea's appreciation cannot be taught and spread by pure text. Even though photos and video clips are used, the special sensations, aroma, aftertaste and the body feeling after having a sip of Puerh tea cannot be transmitted through the Internet.
Appreciation of Puerh tea is a kind of human art which is for your relaxation, recreation and personal experience. You are not perfectly sharing the same experience as the author does if you only read on the pure text of the tasting notes, just like you are being an audience rather than the football player. Even though you may be an awkward football player, you can gain your personal experience by playing the game personally. Only being an audience will never help you to learn more about the skill of playing football. It is the same for learning Puerh. You have to experience it.
